<Short Bio>
The Molice is a Tokyo-based indie rock trio known for their genre-blending sound that merges alternative rock, post-hardcore, dance, shoegaze, and classical influences. With performances across North America, Europe, and Asia, their music resonates globally through its balance of edgy experimentation and melodic hooks. Frontwoman Rinko, whose vocals are primarily in Japanese, delivers emotional and cinematic lyrics often inspired by science fiction classics like Blade Runner and Fahrenheit 451. The Molice’s sound offers a bold departure from Japan’s mainstream pop, embracing an East-meets-West sensibility that is as catchy as it is distinctive.

The Molice is an alternative/post-hardcore rock trio from Tokyo, Japan, formed in 2007 by vocalist/guitarist/lyricist Rinko and guitarist Yuzuru Takeda. In 2015, drummer Hirofumi “Paro” Katsumoto joined, completing the current lineup. Known for their high-energy live shows and cinematic soundscapes, The Molice have developed a signature style that blends 70s punk DIY ethos, 80s new wave flair, and 90s indie guitar rock with modern dance and shoegaze textures.

Touring extensively throughout Japan, North America, Europe, and Asia, The Molice have built a dedicated international fan base drawn to their East/West hybrid sound. Their music features lush guitar-driven arrangements and emotionally charged vocals from Rinko, who sings primarily in Japanese in a melodic rock style that contrasts with Japan’s popular idol aesthetic. Her lyrics often explore themes of romance, technology, and dystopian futures, taking cues from classic sci-fi films like Blade Runner and Fahrenheit 451.

From early on, the band attracted significant attention overseas. Their second album, Catalystrock, caught the ear of Good Charamel Records, the Buffalo-based label founded by Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls, which went on to release the album in North America. The Molice have since received television and radio exposure in countries including Japan, the USA, Vietnam, France, the UK, Australia, and Portugal.

The band relocated to Buffalo, NY in 2018, where they continued touring and released their eighth album Gate. In late 2019, while visiting Japan, the pandemic forced them to remain there longer than expected. Rather than pause their momentum, The Molice shifted to intense creative production. During this time, they released a series of new songs and videos—including “The Ray,” which reached #1 on Amsterdam’s Radio Octaaf chart—and participated in international interviews such as their 2022 feature with RiceburnerFM.

In 2023, they launched the Pre/Post album series with three new releases—Prototypes, Sessions, and Re-Sing—alongside a new music video, “Active Imagination.” Over the　course of the pandemic, they released more than 50 videos and multiple albums, showcasing their relentless creativity. They also expanded their activities into social impact, releasing the charity single Ride the Wind in 2024 to aid victims of the Noto earthquake in Japan.

As of 2025, The Molice remains creatively vibrant, actively producing new music, collaborating with other artists, and performing live. Their most recent album, Prototypes (2025), further solidifies their reputation as one of Japan’s most internationally compelling indie rock exports.

We are excited to announce that on June 30, THE MOLICE will be releasing the CD version of our album “Pre/Post PROTOTYPES (2025 ver)”.
This album was originally released digitally in 2023. For this CD release, we’ve remixed and remastered all tracks and added one bonus track.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, we were based in the United States and actively touring. However, with the onset of the pandemic, all our US tours were canceled, and we remained in Japan with our activities heavily restricted. It has now been five years since then.
Since that time, we’ve continued to create music and videos here in Japan. Creating new music is what we can do—it’s how we’ve expressed ourselves and stayed connected with the world, even during a global pandemic and times of war. We believe it is our only way to communicate our thoughts and feelings.

Now, as the world continues to shift and change rapidly, our desire to directly deliver our music to the world has grown stronger than ever.To make that possible, we need your support.

This album is a collection of songs born between 2022 and 2023.
All production was handled by us, entirely on our own.With 12 tracks running over 70 minutes, it’s the longest and most distinctive album we’ve ever released.The chaos of the world deeply influenced our creative process.Amidst it all, we poured our thoughts, reflections, love for music, prayers, and messages to the world into this album.

[ Biography ]

2007年結成。
　7月、日本の音楽フェスティバル　”サマーソニック07” に約3000組の中から選出され出演。2008年
　1stアルバム『Doctor Ray』をリリース。MV「Ms. PANIC」が、日本のSpace Shower TVや、フランスのNOLIFE TVにてオンエアされる。
2009年
　12月、イギリス・ロンドンツアー。
2010年
　2ndアルバム『Catarystrock』をリリース。
　FOXジャパンの 音楽番組“Backstage Pass” に出演。
　Goo Goo Dollsのロビー・テイキャック氏が主催するGOOD CHARAMEL RECORDSと　
　契約、アメリカ・カナダ・メキシコにてアルバムリリース。
　5月、ベトナム・ハノイで開催された ”C.A.M.A. Festival”に出演。
　9月、アメリカ・アトランタで開催された ”Anime Weekend Atlanta”に出演。
2011年
　12月、ベトナムで開催された”Go! Go! Japan! Festival” に出演。
　ベトナムのYan TVに出演。
2012年
　3rdアルバム『Neugravity』リリース。
2013年
　アルバム制作のためのクラウドファンディングを開始。
2014年
　アコースティックシングル『MOLICE NUDE-1』をリリース。
　4月、クラウドファンディングにより4thアルバム『Resonance Love』をリリース。
　6月、DAFジャパンツアーのオープニングアクトとして新宿BLAZEに出演。
　10月、Zepp DiverCity TOKYOで開催されたJapan Content Showcase 2014に参加。
　　　　TIMM SHOWCASE LIVEに出演。
2015年
　北米にて、4thアルバムに2曲追加された ”Resonance Love +” をリリース。
　9月、アメリカNY州バッファローにてアルバムレコーディング。
　”Music Is Art Festival 2015”に出演。
2016年
　5th アルバム『５』リリース。
　8月、NY州バッファローにてアルバムレコーディング。

2017年
　2月、関西ツアー。

　ニューヨークを中心に８カ所を廻る北米ツアー。アメリカにてMV撮影。
2018年
　活動拠点をアメリカに移す。アメリカツアー開始。
　クラウドファンディング ”KICKSTARTER”でプロジェクトを達成、アルバムを制作する。
　7thアルバム『GATE』リリース。
　5月、ニューヨーク州シラキュースにて、アートショー＆ライブ
　6月、バッファローにて、アートショー＆ライブ
　バッファローの新聞にインタビューと特集記事が掲載される。
　ライブアルバム＆DVD『Live at Silo City』をリリース。
　この年、60ヶ所廻るツアーを行う。

2019年
　5月、出演するフェスの紹介のため、バッファローのテレビに出演。この年は、77ヶ所を
　廻るツアーを行う。”Go Fund Me”にて、資金を募りビザを所得。12月、ビザ更新のため
　日本に一時帰国したまさにその時に、コロナ禍に見舞われ、翌年のアメリカツアーが全て
　キャンセルとなり、日本滞在を余儀なくされる。

　日本にてMV撮影「The Ray」をリリース。12月、Go Fund Meのサポーターに向けて
　新曲3曲を贈る。シングル「The LOOK」をリリース。
2021年
　引き続き日本滞在。6月・7月、オランダ・アムステルダムのラジオ番組
　”Radio Octaaf Amsterdam”にて、「The Ray」が週間チャートで１位を獲得。
2022年
 　新曲と新作ビデオをBandcampとYouTube上でほぼ毎月発表し続ける。
　　RiceubunnerFMによるインタビューの中で、パンデミックの中での活動について答える。

2023年
　新作『Pre/Post』シリーズとして「Prototypes」「Sessions」「Re-Sing」の3枚のアルバム

　The World Famous Mike Rogers Show チャンネルにRinkoがゲストで出演する。
　同プログラムの中ではTHE 　MOLICEの楽曲がオンエアされ続けている。
　カナダのインターネットラジオ局”Curry Bun Radio”にて、スペシャルプログラムの中で
　オンエアされている。
2024年  
  　Rinkoの呼びかけにより、能登地震復興支援チャリティーソング「RIDE THE WIND」を
　バッファローのRobby Takac氏やバッファローのミュージシャンと共に制作・発売し、
　収益金を被災地に寄付。
2025年  
 　『PROTOTYPES (2025)』をCDアルバムとしてリリース。さらにニューアルバムのリリースに向けた制作活動、他バンドとのコラボレーション、ライブ活動など、活発な活動を続けている。

演奏活動が制限される中で彼らは創作活動に集中することを選び、コロナが終息するまでの数年間の間に3枚のアルバムのリリース、50本以上の動画制作など驚異的な量の作品を制作し続けた。彼らは日本での大震災の被災地を支援するためのチャリティソングをリリースしたり他のバンドとのコラボレーションなど新しい活動を行いながら新たな可能性に挑戦し続けている。2025年の現在もすでに新作アルバムのリリース、さらなる制作への準備など着々と進んでおり、混沌とした世界の中でも彼らの音楽への情熱は尽きることなく湧き出し続けている。
